What factors caused this revolution? Be specific. -European enlightenment philosophy -Economic ideals of the physiocrats -American colonists became politically independent and requested changes in the monarch government. -Merchants, manufacturers and professionals could gain economic power but not political power. -Those below them have no rights. -Monarchy not viewed as divinely ordained. -King wished to increase taxes on the poor, and it expanded to classes that didn’t have it before. -Slaves revolted once they heard that they weren’t actually freed. -People of color were freed if they qualified with certain terms. -Slave revolts were led by Toussaint L’ouverture and they played the French, Spanish and British against each other. What were the desires/goals of Revolutionaries? -Reform the government system -Gain independence as a nation -Establish rights for men to be equal -Rid of tyranny -Enforce equal rights for everyone. -Freedom of liberty, equality and fraternity. -Wanted to abolish slavery -Wished to get equal rights with American colonists -Independence for Haiti. Dates and Brief Summary of Major Events of Revolution -1754: French and Indian war, Kiin Louis wishes to repel American colonists from safety against savages. -1770: Boston massacre, killed 5 citizens. -1773: Boston Tea Party, citizens who were disguised dumped a lot of tea into the harbor to fight back. -1774: Intolerable Acts: British parliament put restrictions on American colonists. -1776: Declaration of Independence -1783: Treaty of Paris, alliance between America and Britian. -1789: Storming pf the Bastille Prison. -Revolutionaries were tired of the monarchy not changing, so they stole gunpowder and weapons. -1791:Hatian people became influenced. They realized error in social structure of the whites, mulattos and blacks. -1793: Slavery abolished. -1796: Toussaint L’ouverture rules Hispaniola. -1803: Battle of Vertere's -1804: Independence from France and Jean Jacques Dessalines in which proclaimed this independence..
